DAVESDUCTS provides cleaning and maintenance for accessible HRV, ERV
and whole-home HEPA filtration components. We inspect filters,
pre-filters, accessible housings, heat-recovery components and related
ventilation areas, then identify what should be cleaned, replaced or
serviced according to the equipment manufacturer’s requirements.
HRV / ERV CLEANING PRICING
Standalone HRV / ERV cleaning — $375 + HST.
Available for dedicated HRV / ERV installations with rigid
duct construction only. This fixed standalone price is
intended for eligible dedicated ventilation systems where the
HRV / ERV and accessible system components can be properly serviced.

FIXED-PRICE ELIGIBILITY
Dedicated system + rigid ductwork
The $375 + HST standalone price applies only to eligible dedicated
HRV / ERV systems constructed with rigid ductwork.
Not included in this fixed price:
flexible-duct HRV / ERV systems, non-dedicated / simplified
installations, difficult access, repairs, replacement filters or
components, or work outside the stated cleaning scope. Additional
work is quoted separately where required.
DUCT-CLEANING ADD-ON
HRV & HEPA Filter Cleaning — $89 + HST
When DAVESDUCTS is already performing an air duct cleaning,
simplified and accessible HRV or HEPA filter maintenance can be
added during the same visit. Replacement filters, HEPA cartridges,
repairs, difficult access and additional maintenance requirements
are not included unless specifically quoted.

HRV and HEPA systems depend on airflow.
Dust-loaded filters and dirty accessible components can add resistance
and reduce how effectively a ventilation or filtration system moves air.
Regular inspection also helps identify damaged filters, overdue media
and visible maintenance concerns before they become larger service issues.

What do we inspect on an HRV or ERV?
The exact procedure depends on the make, model, condition and
accessibility of the unit, but the following areas are commonly reviewed.
Filters
Inspect accessible filters for dust and debris and clean washable
filters where appropriate.
Heat-Recovery Core
Inspect the accessible core and clean it where the manufacturer
permits and the service scope includes it.
Interior Cabinet
Remove accessible accumulated dust and debris from appropriate
interior surfaces.
Condensate Components
Visually inspect accessible condensate drainage components where
applicable.
Outdoor Intake & Exhaust
Check accessible exterior intake and exhaust terminations for obvious
blockage or restriction.
General Condition
Identify visible maintenance concerns, damaged components or issues
that may require separate HVAC or ventilation service.
HEPA MAINTENANCE
Whole-home HEPA systems usually have more than one filtration stage.
A whole-home HEPA cabinet may include a pre-filter, high-efficiency media
and other filtration components. Each stage should be treated according
to its design rather than assuming every filter can be washed.
Pre-Filter
The first stage captures larger particles. Depending on the system,
it may be cleanable or replaceable.
HEPA Media
Disposable HEPA cartridges or media should be replaced when required
rather than washed.
Cabinet
Accessible dust and debris can be removed from the filter housing
during maintenance.
Airflow
Heavily loaded filters can increase resistance, so filter condition
should be considered with the HVAC system it serves.

Not every filter should be washed.
CLEANABLE
Washable filters & components
Some HRV or ERV pre-filters and heat-recovery components are designed
to be vacuumed or washed. Cleaning methods should follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for the specific equipment.
REPLACEABLE
HEPA & disposable media
Disposable HEPA media and other non-washable filters should not be
washed simply because they look dirty. When replacement is required,
the correct media should be installed.
HRV IS NOT HEPA
Ventilation and filtration do different jobs.
HRV / ERV
Brings in outdoor air and exhausts stale indoor air.
A heat or energy recovery ventilator exchanges indoor and outdoor
air while transferring heat or energy between the two separated
airstreams.
HEPA
Filters airborne particulate from the air passing through it.
A dedicated whole-home HEPA system recirculates or receives
connected air through high-efficiency filter media.
MORE THAN FILTER CLEANING
Some problems require HVAC or ventilation service.
Filter cleaning is maintenance. It does not repair a malfunctioning
HRV, ERV or HEPA system and it does not correct an improperly designed
or installed ventilation system.
Motor or Fan Problems
A fan that does not operate properly requires diagnosis and repair
rather than filter cleaning.
Control Problems
Wall controls, timers, sensors and related deficiencies require
separate troubleshooting.
Airflow or Balancing
Poor ventilation can result from ductwork, balancing, installation
or equipment issues.
Damaged Components
Damaged cores, motors, filters or other components may require
repair or replacement.

Common questions before booking service.
How much is standalone HRV / ERV cleaning?
Standalone HRV / ERV cleaning is $375 + HST for eligible dedicated
installations with rigid duct construction only. Flexible-duct,
simplified / non-dedicated, difficult-access or otherwise
non-standard installations are not included in this fixed-price
scope and may require separate assessment and quotation.
Can HRV filters be washed?
Some HRV filters are washable, but the correct cleaning method
depends on the equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
for the specific filter and unit.
Can a HEPA filter be washed?
Most conventional disposable whole-home HEPA media should not be
washed. When the HEPA element reaches the end of its service life,
the appropriate replacement media should be installed.
Can an HRV core be cleaned?
Many HRV heat-recovery cores are designed for periodic cleaning,
but procedures vary by manufacturer. Components should only be
cleaned using methods approved for that particular unit.
Can HRV or HEPA maintenance be added to duct cleaning?
Yes. Simplified, accessible HRV and HEPA filter cleaning is
$89 + HST when added to an air duct cleaning service. Replacement
media, repairs and more involved maintenance are additional where
required.
What if my HRV fan is not working?
A failed fan, motor, control or sensor requires troubleshooting and
repair rather than routine filter cleaning.
